Does thinking about getting an agent make you feel scared? Small? Confused? Stuck?
This webinar is for you.
Come learn from one of the best agents in the business, Lucy Carson. Lucy is an agent at The Friedrich Agency, which represents literary stars like Elizabeth Strout, Ruth Ozeki, Laurie Frankel, Leila Mottley, and Jane Smiley.
In conversation with award-winning author Sarah Sentilles, Lucy will explain what agents do, how a good author/agent relationship supports your art for the long term, and how to write a kick-ass query letter.
PROS FOR PROSE will help you:
DEMYSTIFY THE PUBLICATION PROCESS
Lucy will explain what an agent is, what an agent does, and how she helps her clients sell their work. Lucy will share how agents support writers and give you inside tips for what she looks for when talking with writers.
CONNECT WITH A REAL-LIFE AGENT
Before the workshop, you can submit your questions for Lucy. Ask anything you'd like to ask -- about agents, query letters, and the marketplace.
LEARN THE KEY ELEMENTS OF A QUERY LETTER
What makes a good query letter? How do you make yours stand out? How long should it be? Lucy will explain the three key paragraphs every query letter should have.
LEAVE BEHIND SCARCITY ENERGY
So many writers approach finding an agent with a "choose me, choose me" attitude. This is not the right approach. In this workshop, we'll help put you back in the driver's seat and remember that finding an agent is about building a team that understands you and your work.
WRITE WITH A SENSE OF ABUNDANCE (rather than fear)
Worrying about getting an agent often impedes writers' creativity. When we're afraid, we get smaller, scrunched, knotted – and that’s not the best way to write. This workshop will help you connect with a sense of abundance.
MEET LUCY CARSON
Lucy Carson is Senior Agent & Film/TV Rights Director at The Friedrich Agency. She has cultivated a list of fiction and narrative non-fiction for the adult trade audience. She likes voice-forward fiction that asks complicated questions about the intersection of tech, media, and modern relationships. Often the novels that are hardest to definitively categorize are the ones that most readily seduce her. In non-fiction, she always craves narrative—whether it’s a previously untold chapter of history, or an intimate memoir, or the portrait of a contemporary cultural phenomenon.
In addition to brokering domestic publishing deals for her clients, she also oversees all Film, Television & Dramatic business for the wider agency list.
