INTRODUCING
THE WILD CRAFT SERIES
Great writing comes from close attention, risk-taking, trust, and understanding revision as a creative practice.
In THE WILD CRAFT SERIES, we'll study extraordinary writing, experiment with craft, and strengthen our own work with brave revision.
Each of the three workshops in this series can stand on its own -- or you can commit to all three and buy the SEASON PASS to save 20%!
All workshops will be hosted on Zoom. You can live anywhere and participate!
Why I Created the Wild Craft Series
I created the Wild Craft Series because of you.
Writers in the Word Project community told me what they wanted: More craft. More opportunities to go deep. More offerings that felt financially possible to say yes to.
This series is my response: three connected workshops, each designed to stand on its own, but even more powerful together, and all at a price that opens the door wider.
I know writing can feel like wandering in the wilderness alone. You have instincts, fragments, flashes of something true and brilliant, but you’re wondering if those gifts can be trusted. You’re longing for craft tools that don’t flatten your voice but expand it. You’re looking for other writers who are out here too, making their way.
This series is an offering for all that longing.
Together, we’ll study great writing, not to mimic it, but to see what’s possible. We’ll explore craft so you can expand your toolbox. And we’ll practice revision together in real time.
This series isn’t about rules or limits or the “right way” to write. It’s about remembering the freedom and permission that already belong to you. It’s about helping you write the story only you can tell.
Who's Welcome in this Series?
The Wild Craft Series is for writers at every stage.
If you’re just beginning.
If you’ve been writing in journals for years but don’t dare call yourself a writer.
If you’re deep into a project or just circling an idea.
If you’ve published books.
If you’re writing your very first page.
If you write fiction, nonfiction, poetry, hybrid work, . . .
If you’re not even sure what you write.
You are welcome here.
What matters is your curiosity. Your willingness to show up. Your desire to listen more closely to your own voice and explore what your work might become.
About the Workshops
How the F*ck Did They Do That
Sometimes you read a book that’s so good you wonder, “How the f*ck did they do that?” In this workshop, we’ll answer that question. The book will change each season. In the summer session, we’ll look at Paul Lynch’s novel Prophet Song. We’ll study three passages from Lynch’s extraordinary book, break down what’s happening, and do exercises to practice those new techniques. (You don’t have to read the book to participate!)
Craft Deep Dive
In this workshop, we’ll look at a different aspect of craft every season. For the Summer session, we’ll explore dialogue – why it matters (philosophically and practically) and how it creates tension, reveals character, and carries emotional weight. I’ll give a short craft talk, then guide you through exercises to help you experiment with dialogue in new ways.
Revision Lab
This workshop is designed to make the revision process more visible. Writers will have the opportunity to submit 2-3 pages of work. Using a random selection process, I’ll choose two pieces for a live “hot seat” revision session. After that, I’ll guide the whole group through a series of generative exercises to help you revise your own work.
WHY JOIN THE SEASON PASS?
I created this series because so many of you told me you wanted more craft, more space to share your work, more ways to stay connected to your writing without breaking the bank. If you’ve been wanting to see what happens when you commit to your work, the SEASON PASS is that invitation.
And here are some benefits of choosing the SEASON PASS:
Save 20% when you commit to the full series—more support for less cost.
Each workshop builds on the next, deepening your craft over time (while still working as standalones if needed).
Create real momentum: A three-month container helps you stay with your writing long enough to see change and progress.
Stay accountable: Knowing what’s next makes it easier to return to the page, even when life gets busy.
Become part of a cohort: You’ll see familiar faces, build trust, and go deeper in sharing and feedback over time. You'll belong to something.
MEET SARAH SENTILLES
I created the Wild Craft Series in response to what many of you told me you needed: more craft, more opportunities to share your work, more affordable options, and more one-off workshops you can step into without a long commitment. This series is my answer to that.
Here's a little bit about me: I'm the author of five books, including Draw Your Weapons, which won the 2018 PEN Award for Creative Nonfiction. My most recent book, Stranger Care: A Memoir of Loving What Isn’t Ours, was published by Random House and was a New York Times Editor’s Choice and Idaho Book of the Year. My writing has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Atlantic, among other publications. I've had residencies at Hedgebrook, Yaddo, and the Hemingway House. I earned a bachelor's degree at Yale and master's and doctoral degrees at Harvard. I'm also the co-founder of the Alliance of Idaho, which works to protect the human rights of immigrants. I live in Idaho's Wood River Valley, with my family.
